In the end, all
business operations can be reduced to three words; people, products and
profits. Unless you’ve got a good team, you can’t do much about the
other two.
- Lee Iaccoca
Most people
believe that they are “a good judge of people”. Judging by the divorce
rate, that is questionable. In order to make the selection process better,
Multiquest developed a simple but effective method of search.
If we want
the best “widget” salesperson around, we ask the only people with an
intelligent vote, “widget” CUSTOMERS, “Who served your needs best in
the past year or two?” Once a name comes up twice, (there are some
pretty strange one on one relationships) we really do not need to know
much else. The candidate is good.
All that
remains is to bring the candidate to the bargaining table. Because good
people are well remunerated, both emotionally and monetarily, they are
almost never looking. We have also developed some skills at bringing such
people to the bargaining table.
This method
seems to work equally well for individuals and corporate entities. After
all, a corporation is but a guise for the chief executive officer.
People get the job done.
Regardless
of the tools, it is people that get the job done. The right chief
executive, the right representative, distributor, or agency, the right
joint venture or strategic alliance, the right technical assistance or
trouble shooting. In short, the right experience, expertise and
motivation.
Multiquest started in 1981, doing executive search
and recruitment, principally to the financial community and the large
multinational banks, and evolved to searching for people for specialty
projects where there were only half a dozen or so qualified candidates in
the world. Today, we still spend much of our time creating relationships,
matching know how with networking, outsourcing with collaborative action.
